This session was facilitated by Dr. Rod Githens, Program Director and faculty member in Organizational Leadership and Learning
at the University of Louisville.

Summary of Session:

Have you ever wondered why so many attempts to attain organization change don’t inspire and motivate employees?

In this conference, participants learned and applied the Appreciative Inquiry (AI) framework, an entirely different way of facilitating organization change to meet strategic organizational
goals.

This innovative approach to organization development uses a positive approach that focuses on building on past successes rather than focusing on problems. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn the foundations of AI and will apply it to practice through hands-on application activities.

By the end of this workshop, participants:
  • Understood the background, purposes, and philosophy of strength-based approaches to organization development
  • Understood how learning professionals’ use of strength-based approaches to organization development can help align HR with strategic organizational goals.
  • Applied basic principles of strength-based approaches into their professional practice.
  • Created a personal vision for the future using appreciative inquiry.
