In the Organizational Leadership and Learning Program at UofL, we use the term blended in a couple of ways.

First all of our 8-week classes, whether seated or online are blended in that that ALL of the material is online. Students are responsible for all content whether the instructor covers it in class.

We also consider blended in how we develop content. Since students are from all over the world, all of our lectures are usually either PowerPoint voiceovers and lecture videos.

In my instructional strategies, I start my training with myself on camera explaining what the lesson covers and then there is a Camtasia video explaining the topic. The students then have an activity to perform based on the content. This activity is shared a number of different ways for feedback; Voicethread, discussion boards and learning journals. Thanks everybody for attending my talk. Nice to see some of the chatter here and to see people making plans for blended solutions.

Im working on a new learning project that will hinge on my audience learning a new way of doing something (change). I plan on blending Push Pull content with Synchronous and Asynchronous training and ensuring that I build the training on the foundational ARCS Model. It will look like this:

    1. 1. Training Webinar (that will also be recorded and made available)
      1. Include Polls and Chat
    2. Push Content - Facilitator Guide
    3. Pull Content  - Getting Started Quick Reference Guide & System Guide
    4. Accountability in Learning  - (Create a Curriculum that Must be assigned and completed in the LMS) with a Knowledge Check as the final component.

During our session Karl asked about our biggest takeaway. A few of you answered with the following:

    • Spaced Repetition
    • Drip Campaigns
    • Active vs. Passive Learning
    • Push vs Pull Content

Continuing the conversation; how or what will you incorporate of the information offered today?
