Workforce Diversity - UPS Transitional Training Program

Pam Davidson will speak on UPS’s collaboration with the Coalition for Workforce Diversity and how UPS is engaged in ongoing work to increase hiring and retention of individuals with disabilities.

Jennifer Bahan and Phil Donahue from UPS, will join Pam in highlighting their partnership with Options Unlimited, whose mission is to assist people with disabilities become more independent by providing employment and educational opportunities.

In order to support this strategy, a new training and development program was created at UPS that provides an accessible training site and specific training methods to meet the unique needs of employees with disabilities.

The UPS Transitional Training Center was build to expand opportunities for candidates to learn and master job skills in a simulated environment before joining the workforce.  The Training Center environment provides flexibility for candidates without work experience, allowing them to build the skills necessary to succeed.  The program also provides additional time for candidates to master core job requirements before entering the workforce.

The Transitional Training Program enables UPS to:

  • Meet the growing challenges of staffing.

  • Expand employment opportunities for a large group of qualified job-seekers.

  • Demonstrate success in training a diversified workforce while setting an example for customers and peer companies.
