Frankie Wolf from Hewlett-Packard will present:

Using Agile Methodology
for eLearning Development

So what's it about? The buzzwords “agile methodology” and “scrum” are almost always in reference to software development, as an alternative to the traditional “waterfall” approach, which didn’t allow for unpredictability or mid-course changes. In training development, we’ve seen some new models rising up to replace ADDIE, but many seem to be adding iteration to each phase of a project rather than thinking through a project end to end. By adopting agile methodology, we can apply end-to-end thinking to training development. In her presentation, Frankie will give some insight into how agile methods empower training development teams to plan, develop, and deliver learning products in short cycles without sacrificing quality or content—that is, new content, from scratch, not rapid development from existing material.

What will you learn?

  • Agile methodology 101—the terminology, the people, and the process
  • Why use agile for eLearning (or any type of training) development
  • How agile flips project planning and management upside-down
  • Agile team values and personality requirements
  • Why empowered, self-managing teams work
  • Possible pitfalls or “learning opportunities” in adopting agile

And who is this Frankie person? Frankie Wolf is the Product Owner of customer training for the HP Exstream software portfolio at Hewlett-Packard. In this role, she is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering instructor-led and multimedia training on complex technical topics for professional users, primarily application developers. Frankie’s background is in instructional design, and she is a recent graduate with an M.Ed. in Instructional Systems and Learning Technology and a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
